Q: How do I transfer my BeamSuite license to a new BlackBerry device?
A: Please do the following:

  1. Download BeamSuite to your new device OTA from http://beamberry.com/download
  2. Click on the BeamSuite icon
  3. Click on "Existing User"
  4. Enter the login / password combination that you used to establish your BeamSuite account *
* Note: The e-mail address that you originally chose as your BeamSuite login needs to be linked with your new BlackBerry

Q: Do I need a specific type of BlackBerry for BeamSuite to work?
A: BeamSuite will work on most BlackBerry devices, even the older ones. Our solution is unique in that it does not require any intense processing to be performed on the BlackBerry itself. You will need to have the BlackBerry operating system version 4.1 or later. Check with your service provider for information on upgrading the operating system.

Q: How is BeamSuite different from Documents To Go that comes integrated with the BlackBerry OS 4.5?

Q: When I click on the BeamBery icon from my home screen nothing happens. What do I do?
A: Please make sure that:

  1. You have a data plan on your BlackBerry
  2. You have at least one e-mail account linked with your BlackBerry

Q: I am having trouble installing BeamSuite using the BlackBerry Application Loader software on my PC. What do I do?
A: Please download BeamSuite directly to your BlackBerry from http://beamberry.com/download You probably need to upgrade your BlackBerry Application Loader software on your PC.

Q: Are the documents processed and stored by the SLG Mobile servers kept private?

Yes. Please refer to our privacy policy. Please also read our Terms of Service and End User License Agreement. If you are concerned about the privacy or security of your document attachments, please contact us at info@slgmobile.com. The BeamSuite public service is not intended for usage with documents of a highly confidential nature.

Q: Why do I see "Retrieving Document" and then the document never displays?
A:
A common reason for this is the mail server you use to receive your e-mails not allowing forwarding of e-mails with attachments. If that is the case then your document attachments never reach the SLG Mobile server for processing. Please contact your mail server administrator to enable e-mail forwarding on your mail server.

Q: Can I view large documents with BeamSuite?
A:
Yes. BeamSuite viewer has the ability to open even very large documents. The time it takes to open a document will vary based on its size and other factors, but the solution is very scalable.

Q: When viewing documents, how do I perform horizontal scrolling?
A:
To perform horizontal scrolling press and hold the "Alt" key while using your track wheel.

Q: Will BeamSuite work with a printer that is not Bluetooth enabled?
A: Yes. If your printer is not Bluetooth enabled you will need to purchase a Bluetooth printer adapter that you can plug into the printer’s USB port.

Q: What do I need to do to print my document attachments?
A: Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on your BlackBerry. Also make sure that your printer is either Bluetooth enabled or you have purchased a Bluetooth printer adapter (see above). Then from your Blackberry locate your printer and pair the two devices. You can then use BeamSuite to print your documents.

Q: What printers are supported to use with BeamSuite?
A: BeamSuite supports more than 1500 different printers. Simply locate your printer manufacturer and model from the dropdown list when you set up your printer for use with BeamSuite.

Q: What document formats are supported by BeamView?
A: PDF, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, RTF, ZIP archives.

Q: I can’t get my printer to work with the BlackBerry. What do I do?
A: If your printer is one of the 1500+ supported printers and you’re having trouble printing to it using BeamSuite then please let us know. While we are not able to test with all the possible printer models, we’ll be happy to do our best to resolve the issues.

Q: How do I uninstall BeamSuite?
A: To uninstall BeamSuite please go from your home screen to "Options" -> "Advanced Options" -> "Applications". Then select BeamBerry, click on your track wheel and select "Delete".

Q: Initially I did not allow BeamSuite to open socket connections to the SLG Mobile server. How do I change that now?
A: From the home screen go to "Options" -> "Security Options" -> "Application Permissions" -> "BeamBerry" -> "Edit Permissions" -> "Reset Firewall Prompts" -> "Save". You will be prompted to allow access again the next time that you click on the BeamSuite icon on your home screen.

Q: I am seeing the message "Retrieving Document" for a while and then nothing happens.
A: If you have waited over two minutes and are still seeing this message it may be due to the fact that your e-mail with attachments never arrived at the SLG Mobile server for processing. Please ensure that your mail server is set up to allow forwarding of e-mails with attachments. If you are using BES, then your BES administrator should be able to provide you with that information.

Q: I am seeing "Cannot connect to the Server" message when I try to do anything with BeamSuite. What do I do?
A: From the home screen go to "Options" -> "Security Options" -> "Application Permissions" -> "BeamBerry" -> "Edit Permissions" -> "Reset Firewall Prompts" -> "Save". You will be prompted to allow access again the next time that you click on the BeamSuite icon on your home screen. If that does not work, please try the following steps:

  1. Go to "Options" from your BlackBerry home screen
  2. Go to "Advanced Options"
  3. Go to "TCP"
  4. In the APN field please enter your correct APN (you can find your correct APN here )

Please try using BeamSuite and see if you are still having the connection problems. If you already have APN set, please try using BeamSuite without APN altogether (just remove it) and see if that helps.

Also, if your BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) is configured to connect to the Internet through a Proxy server, please change the BES settings to bypass the Proxy server and configure it to have access to beamberry.com and service1.beamberry.com on ports 8887 and 8888.

Q: I get a java.lang.exception message. What do I do?
A: To resolve this problem follow these steps:

  1. From your home screen go to "Options" -> "Advanced Options" -> "Applications" and then select BeamBerry from the list of applications and from the menu select "Edit Permissions".
  2. Expand your "Connections" section and make sure that the "Carrier Internet" is set to either Prompt or Allow.
  3. Expand the "Interactions" section and ensure that "Interprocess Communication" is set to Allow and "Module Management" is also set to Allow.
  4. Expand the "User Data" section and ensure that "Email" and "PIM" are both set to Allow.
  5. When you hit the escape key, please save the settings when prompted

 

Q: I'm getting the "Service Unavailable" or "Forbidden" message. What should I do?
A: If your BES connects through a proxy you will need to have it bypassed and ensure that you can connect to beamberry.com and service1.beamberry.com. Additionally, please ensure that your company's firewall ports 8888 and 8887 are open for outgoing socket connections. Your BlackBerry needs to be able to open socket connections to service1.beamberry.com and beamberry.com.

Finally, please ask your BES administrator to try the resolutions for cause 1 and cause 2 as described here.

Q: I'm getting the "Cannot Find Supported Attachment Types" message. What should I do?
A: Please make sure that:

  1. The document that you are trying to open is in the format supported by BeamSuite (e.g. PDF, RTF, MS OFFICE, ZIP)
  2. You can open the attachment using the default BlackBerry viewer
  3. Your BES and mail server are configured to allow BlackBerry forwarding of e-mails with document attachments to third party servers
